LED headlight bulbs, explained
An LED headlight bulb is a direct replacement for the halogen bulb already sitting in your car's reflector or projector housing. Instead of heating a filament, it drives a pair of LED chips from a small driver module, so it draws less current, reaches full brightness instantly and produces a whiter light than the yellow-white of a stock halogen. Nothing is cut and nothing is drilled — the bulb goes into the same socket and the same dust cap goes back on.
What you gain over a halogen bulb
- More usable light on unlit roads. Highway stretches and village roads without street lighting are where the difference is obvious.
- Instant switch-on. Useful for headlight flashes and for high-beam dipping in traffic.
- Lower current draw for the same or greater light output, which matters on older wiring.
- Long service life compared with a filament bulb that is shaken loose by Indian road surfaces.
How to choose the right bulb
1. Start with the socket, not the brightness
The socket is the only thing that decides whether a bulb physically fits. Common sockets on cars sold in India include H4, H7, H11, H19 and 9012/HIR2. Our catalogue lists the socket on every product page, and our vehicle pages show the socket we have verified for each supported model and year range. Get this right first — everything else is preference.
2. Check which beams you are replacing
Some cars use a single H4 bulb for both low and high beam. Others use separate bulbs for each, and a third bulb for the fog lamp. If your car uses separate bulbs you may need more than one type, so look at the beam position listed against each fitment.
3. Pick a sensible colour temperature
Around 6000K reads as clean white and suits everyday driving. Very blue outputs above that look dramatic but scatter badly in rain, dust and fog, which is exactly when you need the light most.
4. Look at the cooling design
Heat is what kills an LED bulb. Fan-cooled and braided-strap designs both work; what matters is that the heatsink has room to breathe behind your headlamp housing. Deep dust caps on some cars leave very little clearance, so measure before you order.
5. Check warranty and after-sales support
A headlight bulb is a safety part. Buy something that can be replaced under warranty by a team you can reach. Gear Hub warranty claims are handled by our own support team in India.
Confirming fitment for your car
Open the vehicle page for your model and check the year range against your registration certificate. Facelifts often change the socket mid-generation, so a bulb that fits a 2016 car may not fit the 2021 version of the same model. If your variant is not listed, send us the model, year and variant and we will confirm the correct socket before you spend anything.
Where to buy
Gear Hub headlight bulbs are sold through our official Amazon and Flipkart storefronts, so you get marketplace payment protection and returns. Every product page links straight to the current listing.
