## Why white light struggles in rain Water droplets and fog scatter short-wavelength light back toward the driver. That is why a bright white headlight can feel like it is working against you in heavy rain, creating a wall of glare. Golden yellow light at around 3000K has a longer wavelength that passes through droplets rather than reflecting off them. This is why fog lights have been yellow for decades. ## Your pre-monsoon lighting checklist 1. **Clean the lens surfaces.** Oxidised, hazy headlight lenses can cut output by up to forty percent. A polish restores most of it. 2. **Check for moisture inside the housing.** Condensation means a failed seal, which will kill any bulb you fit. 3. **Fit yellow fog lights.** A 3000K fog light is the single highest-value monsoon upgrade. 4. **Verify beam alignment.** Rain amplifies the effect of a misaligned beam. 5. **Test every lamp.** Brake lights and indicators matter more in low visibility than at any other time. ## Driving technique still matters Use low beam in heavy rain. High beam reflects off the water curtain and reduces your own visibility. Keep your fog lights for genuinely poor conditions rather than running them permanently.
